Reality Show President: Inside the White House PR Machine

Which Barack Obama is telling the truth here? Writing as a U.S. senator from Illinois, Obama laments that there will always be a barrier—the independent media—between him and the people he serves. As a public figure, his identity will be created by reporters and critics that he cannot control, distorted by the lenses of photographers who don't answer directly to him.
Only three years later, as commander in chief, President Obama took a far more trusting tone with the media. In his earliest speeches, he promised an administration of unparalleled openness, access, and integrity. Indeed, he asserted he was running "the most transparent administration in history" just four months before Edward Snowden spilled the beans on the National Security Agency.
"The White House has effectively become a broadcast company," says Michael Shaw, publisher of Bagnewsnotes.com, a site dedicated to the analysis of news images. Shaw explains how strategically composed photos, taken by official White House photographers, travel from social media sites that are controlled by the administration to the front pages of newspapers around the world.
The press publishes the official White House photographs because independent photographers and videographers are increasingly barred from covering the president. This practice has diminished the power of the independent media as an exclusive distribution channel while empowering official photographers such as Pete Souza, who are on the presidential payroll.
And so, says Shaw, the public has been fed a steady diet of whatever kind of president the news cycle demands. When conspiracy theorists questioned Obama's patriotism, we saw images of Obama the American everyman. To celebrate the anniversary of Rosa Parks' 1955 refusal to move to the back of a public bus in Montgomery, Alabama, we saw Obama reenact her famous image. Time and again, we see Obama striking poses out of John F. Kennedy's repertoire. The official White House photographers have created a presidential identity for every conceivable occasion — as long as the image is flattering, and almost always, larger than life.
While presidents have always sought to control their image, Shaw and many in the press say that Obama has restricted media access to an unparalleled degree. As the AP's director of photography wrote last year in The New York Times, the Obama administration has "systematically tried to bypass the media by releasing a sanitized visual record of his activities through official photographs and videos, at the expense of independent journalistic access."
Media boycotts of official photographs have been ineffective in persuading the president to live up to his promise of transparency. It is only by a tradition of public openness, not law, that photographers have enjoyed access to the official business of the president. So we could revert to the practice before the JFK administration, when photographers were mostly kept away from the inner workings of the White House.
Short of generating public outrage, there is little the independent media can do. "Because [the White House] can distribute directly through all these different [new and old media] channels," says Shaw, "there's really not much downside to it, there's not much accountability."
All over the world, heads of state are producing idealized versions of their own identities on social media, a technology that empowers leaders every bit as much as the rest of us. Heads of state and politicians are increasingly free to project their own self-image directly to the public, with less accountability than ever from an independent press. From the White House on YouTube to Ten Downing Street on Flickr to Bashar al-Assad's Instagram page, we may never see our politicians in the way that we did just a few years ago.

As Prof. Art Carden of Samford University explains, this is an example of the "broken window fallacy," a term coined by Frederic Bastiat. When a shopkeeper's window is broken, he will spend money on a new window, which gives income and jobs for glaziers. This activity is "seen," but the "unseen" is just as important: the money spend on a new window could have been spent on other things. Wealth has not increased, but only reallocated from some people to others, and society is worse off by one window.

According to the emails, Clinton and the rest of the Obama administration were feverishly working to cover up the fact that al-Qaeda had attacked our embassy. Feverishly trying to cover up the fact that the consulate didn’t have sufficient security. And feverishly trying to create a lie big enough that the entire American public would fall for it. Clinton and Obama cared more about saving their political careers than saving the lives of four Americans.
Obama and Clinton stood by as four Americans were murdered.
If a murder is in progress, and the President of the United States and Secretary of State do nothing, that is accessory to murder. And up until now, Clinton and Obama have gotten away with murder.
But there’s a new sheriff in town: “Benghazi Bulldog” Trey Gowdy, appointed to head the Select Committee on Benghazi. And this Sheriff is going after Clinton and Obama with guns blazing!

Really? Hillary Clinton: No Reason To Continue Benghazi Investigation

...Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday there’s “no reason” to continue making inquiries into the 2012 terrorist attack.
“Of course there are a lot of reasons why, despite all of the hearings, all of the information that’s been provided, some choose not to be satisfied and choose to continue to move forward,” Clinton said. “That’s their choice. And I do not believe there is any reason for it to continue in this way, but they get to call the shots in the Congress.”
A select committee has been formed in Congress with seven Republicans and five Democrats, led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.) to try to get to the bottom of the assault and any White House cover-up to shield President Obama and Clinton herself, who was Secretary of State when the attack happened.
Hillary Clinton is trying to position herself as a moderate, but she is anything but.
She is the Grandmother of Obamacare and her past involves in so much skulduggery that her closet contains a whole damn mausoleum.
She is a radical Leftist whose policies would be every bit as corrupt and destructive as those of Barack Hussein Milhaus Obama.

I like to paint pictures that express how I feel about what is happening in America. We have a disease. It's infecting every aspect of our society and it's time we did something about it. Some of these people I really like and some I don't, but for the sake of our health, our children and our sanity, we need to take drastic action quickly.
What if we could bring them all together, put them on a deserted island and quarantine them for say a hundred years? They believe they have all the answers to everything. But every liberal idea I've ever seen has led to total failure. If they were right, their new island home would be a utopia before long. Let's look at the most liberal communities in the country. New York City, Detroit, Chicago...how are they doing? Yes, I say let's quarantine them and let nature take its course.
You might have this disease if you believe:
We should remove guns from law-abiding citizens who have a right to protect themselves, and leave them in the hands of criminals who will acquire the firearms illegally anyway they can. How many gun-free zones do you know that have low murder rates?
The same liberals who are trying to save us, turn around and demand abortion rights for women at the expense of over 53 million human lives.
Raise the national debt to meet the continued demand for welfare and entitlement spending at the expense of our country's economic future.
Fight a war against terrorism without identifying who the enemy is because of political correctness and then allow illegal aliens to cross the border by the millions.
Provide kid glove treatment to Islamic radicals and unfriendly regimes and then show religious intolerance to Jews and Christians.
Allow a minority of Gay Rights Activists to dictate the definition of marriage and force Christians to comply.
Use environmentalism to thwart the energy interests of Americans at a time of great financial stress and national security.

Why are you making fun of these people? Most of my paintings are serious in nature, (although liberals find them amusing) this one is more of a satire. This means to me, that although it is humorous on the surface, the underlying message is very serious. Liberals use humor relentlessly as a tool to suppress conservative ideas. As always, if my paintings can cause someone to think about or debate the serious issues, it was successful.
Are you selling prints of this? No, there are copyright restrictions. There are some things more important than money. My hope is to help people wake up to effects of liberalism in America.
Do you think all liberals are bad? Well, yes, but I'm talking about their ideologies, which are destructive. I have many liberal friends. I know many good people that for some unfortunate reason are infected by the disease.
How did you decide whom to include in the painting? I chose well-known liberals in different fields that influence Americans every day. There are many more who I could have included that I think are spreading the disease. Perhaps, some liberals will be pleased if they were included in the painting; like a "badge of honor."
Why is Satan in the painting? Are you saying these people are Satanic?? I don't know that. Perhaps most of them are just deceived. Satan is what I call the "Number One Liberal." Liberalism is about control. Satan wants to promise you everything in exchange for your freedom. He uses lies; deceit and compulsion to have you do his bidding. In the end, you are left with nothing. How has any liberal idea ever ended well? It is instant satisfaction at the expense of your soul. Yes, liberalism is a disease.

In a statement released by the State Department Monday, Kerry lashed out against "partisan political" attacks against him, but acknowledged his comments last week to a closed international forum could have been misinterpreted. While he pointedly did not apologize for the remarks, he stressed he was, and is, a strong supporter of Israel, which he called a "vibrant democracy."
He said his remarks were only an expression of his firm belief that a two-state resolution is the only viable way to end the long-running conflict. And, he stressed, he does not believe Israel is, or is definitely on track to become, an "apartheid state."
