The true American form of government was meant to be a constitutional republic not a Democracy, or any other form of government. As it was intended to be a constitutional republic, the USA should have a government in which the head of state and other officials are representatives of the people and must govern according to existing constitutional law that limits the government's power over all of its citizens. Because the head of the state is elected, it is a republic and not a monarchy.Tweet
Democracy, on the other hand, is a form of government in which all people have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. Majority rule is often listed as a characteristic of democracy. However, it is also possible for a minority to be oppressed by a "tyranny of the majority" in the absence of governmental or constitutional protections of individual or group rights.
Unlike a constitutional republic, where existing constitutional law is how decisions are made, democracy means mob rule.
