WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department on Tuesday ordered nonessential U.S. government personnel and their families to leave Egypt amid growing anti-government protests and uncertainty over the security situation.
The move came as the Obama administration grasps for a response to the revolt against its strongest Arab ally and struggles with the implications for U.S. policy in the Middle East and beyond.
